Yes, but not by drawing one. Can Claude generate QR codes? Claude has no image generator, so on its own it writes you a script that renders a static code. Connect a QR tool and it makes real, editable codes inside your own account instead.
That distinction is the whole answer. Most people asking are not curious about the square; they want a code that scans, downloads cleanly, and does not force a reprint when the link changes. Here is what Claude does on its own, what changes once it is connected to a generator, and which of the two you actually want.
Can Claude generate images at all?#

No. Claude writes text and calls tools; it does not have an image generator the way some assistants do. Ask it for a picture and it will tell you so.
A QR code is the interesting exception, because a QR code is not really a picture. It is a grid that can be described in code, so Claude can write the few lines that draw one and hand them to you to run, or write the SVG out directly.
What comes back is a file, and a static one. It scans, and the destination inside it is fixed forever. That is fine for a homepage or a Wi-Fi password. It is not fine for a menu, an event page or anything printed in quantity.
Can Claude generate QR codes without a connector?#

Only as a file you have to make yourself. What comes back is one of three things, in rough order of how often people get them:
- A script. Usually Python with the
qrcodelibrary, which you then have to run on your own machine. If you do not write code, this is a dead end dressed up as an answer. - An SVG written out in the reply. You save it as a file. It works, and it is static.
- A link to a web generator. Claude knows this is the practical answer for most people, and it is right.
None of those three put the code anywhere you can manage it. There is no dashboard entry, no scan count, and no way to change where it points once it is on paper. The split between a fixed destination and one that might move is the same one covered in static vs dynamic QR codes, and it is the thing that decides whether a reprint is in your future.
What changes when Claude is connected to a QR tool?#

Everything about the second half. Connect QRFLOW's server once and Claude stops describing QR codes and starts making them, in your account, with eleven tools it can call.
These are real asks, not a prompt language to learn:
- "Make a QR code for our fall menu, caption Scan for menu." It makes it and shows you the image.
- "Point the lobby poster's code at the October events page." It re-points a code that is already printed and hanging on a wall.
- "Which of my codes got the most scans this month, by country?" It reads the numbers.
- "Make 40 codes, one per table." It bulk-creates them in one step.
- "Name the business card link hi on my domain." It sets a short link a person can read out loud.
Past web links it makes Wi-Fi, contact card, email, SMS, phone, location, Google review, Instagram, WhatsApp, PDF and app store codes. Codes Claude made are tagged in your dashboard, so you can tell them from the ones you made by hand, and the QR code MCP server page covers the eleven tools one by one.
How do you connect it?#
Once, and it takes about a minute.
- Claude in the browser, desktop or mobile. Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector, and paste
https://qrflow.codes/mcp. QRFLOW also has a page in Claude's own connector directory, which is the same thing with the address filled in. - Claude Code. One line in a terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http qrflow https://qrflow.codes/mcp, then/mcpto sign in.
Either way your browser opens a QRFLOW sign-in page and you press Allow. After that Claude holds a token for your account and nobody signs in again. There is no API key to copy and nothing to install. The Claude setup page has the screenshots, and ChatGPT takes the same address if you use both.
What does it cost?#

A free QRFLOW account connects and Claude can make codes straight away. The plan decides what those codes can do afterward:
- Free. Static codes, as many as you like, plus one dynamic code you can re-point.
- Premium, $4 a month. Every code dynamic, scan analytics, and link names on your own domain.
- Business. Five domains, a team, webhooks, GS1 codes and API keys.
Ask "what plan am I on and what are my limits?" and Claude calls the account tool and tells you, rather than guessing. The plan comparison has the rest.
What Claude will not do with it#
Worth knowing before you hand an assistant the keys.
- It cannot open an account, take a payment or change your plan. It works inside the account you signed in with and nothing else.
- Deleting is marked destructive, so Claude asks first. Pausing is usually the better answer for a code already out in the world.
- Destinations are allow-listed, so a
javascript:ordata:address is refused. - Scans record device, country, city, referrer, browser and language, and never a cookie or a stored IP address.
- On a free account the first dynamic code is the only one. The result says
dynamic: trueorfalse, so ask which of a batch can be re-pointed later.
So should you use Claude or a QR generator?#
Both, pointed at each other. Use Claude alone for a code going into a chat, a doc or a mockup, where it will never need to change. Use a connected generator the moment the code touches print, packaging, signage or anything that costs money to replace.
The thing that makes this worth setting up is not that it saves a browser tab. It is that the code Claude makes is a real one in an account you own, so the poster you print this week can point somewhere else next month without anybody reprinting it.
Questions people ask#
Can Claude run the code it writes?#
In Claude Code, yes, on your own machine. In the browser it writes the script and you run it. Either way the result is a static file, which is why the connector exists.
Does a QR code Claude makes still work after printing?#
A static one works forever and points at the same place forever. A dynamic one, which needs the connector and a saved account, keeps working and lets you change where it goes. The printed square never changes either way.
Is it safe to connect?#
The permissions are the ones listed on the sign-in page, and that is the same trust you give any app you connect to an account. You can disconnect QRFLOW from your account page whenever you like, and every code made through it stays in your dashboard.
Not using an assistant for this? The free QR code generator makes a code in about ten seconds with no account, and it is the same account your connected codes land in either way.
