A product is not the same as a QR code. A code carries one destination; a product carries a GTIN that never changes and as many destinations as you like, each labelled with what it is for. This is how you make your first one.
Before you start
- A GTIN. You license it from GS1, $30 once for a single number.
- An account. Every plan holds products: ten on Free, 25 on Premium, 1,000 on Business.
- Ideally your own subdomain, because the code you print cannot be changed later.
Heads up. Set up your own domain before your first print run. You can change where a code points forever, but you cannot change the address printed on the pack.
Adding it
- 1Open Products
Your dashboard has two tabs, QR codes and Products. Open Products and choose Add product.
- 2Type the GTIN
Paste or type the number. It checks as you type and tells you what kind it is, for example GTIN-12, a US UPC. If the check digit is wrong it says so immediately.
- 3Name the product
The name a person would recognize, like Wildflower Honey 12 oz. It shows on the page and in a scanner's menu.
- 4Say where a phone should land
Paste a page you already have, or leave it empty and build one on the Page tab afterward.
- 5Choose the address
Pick your own subdomain if you have one connected. This is the part that gets printed.
After it is created
Open the product and you get five tabs: Overview with the address that goes on the pack, Links for every destination, Page to build a product page, Code to download it at the right size, and Scans once people start scanning.
