A printed code cannot be fixed. Everything else about a product can change afterward, including where the code points, but the code itself is on the pack for the life of the run. This is the checklist worth ten minutes.
The five checks
- 1Scan it with a real phone
Not the preview on your screen. Print it at the size it will actually be and scan it with the phone camera, not a QR app.
- 2Run it through the checker
Paste the address into our free checker. It tells you whether the GTIN is valid, whether the page answers, and whether a resolver is behind it.
- 3Read the page as a stranger
Open what a shopper gets. Is it about this exact product, or a category page they have to search from?
- 4Try it on a slow connection
A shopper is standing in a shop on a weak signal.
- 5Check the clear space on the proof
Hold the printed proof and look at the white margin around the code. If the design crowds it, say so before the run.
What you can still change afterward
A great deal, which is the point of a dynamic code. You can change where it goes, add links, rewrite the page, and point one batch somewhere different. What you cannot change is the web address printed inside the code.
