A product code opens the wrong page

2 minutes

A product code sends a scan to exactly one place, decided by rules you can read. When it lands somewhere unexpected, one of these six is almost always why.

In the order worth checking

  1. No default is marked. With several links and no default, the first one is used, and the first one is rarely the one you meant. Mark one.
  2. A batch link is catching it. If the code carries a lot number and that lot has its own link, it wins over the product's. Check the Links tab for a link scoped to that batch.
  3. The GTIN is not the one you think. A pack printed from an older artwork file can carry a different number. Read the digits under the barcode and compare them.
  4. The domain lapsed. If the address on the pack is a domain that is no longer connected, nothing we do can answer it. The Account page shows which addresses are live.
  5. The product was deleted. The GTIN stops resolving and the scan answers 404 rather than going anywhere.
  6. Your own page redirects. We hand the scan to the address you registered. If that page then forwards somewhere else, that is your server, not the code.

Seeing it for yourself

The Test it button on a product's Overview scans the live address the way a phone and a checkout scanner would, and tells you what came back. The free checker does the same from outside, with no account, which is useful when you want an answer that does not depend on being signed in.

Scans that went nowhere

The Scans tab counts a scan that found no destination separately. If that number is above zero, something printed is unfinished, and the batch breakdown on the same tab usually says which lot.
